Gusto Films is an independent production company specialising in documentary, filmmaking workshops and event production such as Red Hot Shorts, Blow Up Cinema and World Press Photo Melbourne.
Gusto Films’ first documentary feature, Duke Vin and the Birth of Ska told the inspirational story of the early wave of Jamaican migrants and the positive impact they had upon the UK music scene. The director, Gus Berger has recently set up a series of filmmaking workshops with young, indigenous men who are serving their Community Based Orders at a diversion program in Gippsland.
Gus also runs the popular short film and music video night, Red Hot Shorts, Blow Up Cinema and together with colleague, Maggie Bufe, is bringing the fantastic photographic exhibition, World Press Photo to Melbourne in 2011.
From 1997-2002, Gus owned and ran the independent record store, Rising Sounds. Based in the Degraves Street Subway in Melbourne’s city, Rising Sounds put out a couple of vinyl releases and organised tours and parties for London based DJs Chris Liberator, The Geezer, Lawrie Immersion/Pounding Grooves, DAVE The Drummer and Julian Liberator.
